Fr. O'Reilly's Parish News
St. Daniel the Prophet
Chicago, Illinois

Dear friends,

I send this as an odds and ends to all of you, and include news items which only concern various sub groups.

On May 18, 1985, Joseph Cardinal Bernardin, God rest his soul, ordained me to the priesthood. St. Daniel the
Prophet Parish (address below), where I serve, is having a celebration for my 25th anniversary, to which I
invited you all. On Saturday, June 19, there will be a Mass at 5:00 p.m. Following the Mass there is a reception
in our school. While no reservation is needed to attend, if you think you will join us, it will help to give me a
sense of how many are going to be here.

To my friends from St. Ita Parish, we had a great all school reunion in May. Greg James, my classmate from
the class of 1973, said he will invite our class for a gathering later this year.

To those who attended Quigley North or Quigley South, Niles College or St. Mary of the Lake Seminary, I
encourage you to come to the Mass and socialize following.

To my friends from St. Laurence & Our Lady of Peace, we had a phenomenal Mass and dinner, Sunday, May
23. Sarah Clark died last Friday and was buried out of St. Philip Neri.

Any priests who wish to concelebrate are most welcome to do so. Although the Mass is in Ordinary Time, since
we have white matching concelebration chasubles, I suspect that is the color vestment we will wear. From my
perspective, you can bring a green or a white stole. If you wish to bring a chasuble, I have no problem with
that, because it is my understanding that chasubles are not only permitted by expected for concelebrants.

For parishioners, Fr. Noga, our pastor, asked me to get volunteers to help plan the Mass and reception.
Already many have volunteered to help me in this endeavor. There will be a planning meeting for this
Thursday, June 3, at 7:00 p.m. in our Parish Center. We will need set-up, decorating, food servers, clean up. If
you are interested but cannot attend, please call Gale Voytas at the rectory, 1-773-586-1223, or call or email
me.

As I have served here for 5 years, my term as an associate has ended. I applied for an extension but did not
receive it. Thus, this party is also my farewell. So, effective July 1,
I will be the associate pastor at:
Santa Maria del Popolo Parish,
116 N. Lake St,
Mundelein, Il 60060
1-847-949-8300.

This Saturday, June 5, there will be a Polish-English Mass and Corpus Christi Procession, after the 5:00 p.m.
Mass

Jim Bruton, Jr., is coordinating our Theology-on-Tap young adult speaker series this year. The next meeting is
Monday, June, 7, at 7:00 p.m. in the Parish Center.

I am forwarding this to my other email address, june_30_2002@yahoo.com, so that I can you put you in that
Address Book. The origin of that address is that I was the Pastor of St. Laurence Parish from 1992 - 2002.
When the parish closed, I asked a parishioner to help set up an email address which included the date we
were closed.

I also have a Facebook Page. I set it up while on vacation with my friend, Tim Reilly, in Costa Rica. Since the
Spanish Language, to the best of my knowledge, does not use apostrophes the way the Irish do, my name is
listed as Gerald OReilly, with the accent over the R instead of between the O and the R. I scarcely use the
Facebook Page, but might one day.

God bless,

Father Gerald O'Reilly

P.S. Given our current economy I appreciate that many are drained financially. However, I do invite you to
bring items for recycling. I joined the Cub Scouts in 3rd grade, 1967 and have had some involvement in
scouting ever since. I do appreciate recycling and energy conservation. In doing so, that which would
otherwise become landfill is able to be used again, trees and other resources are spared since the recycled
items replace the need for deforestation, and, in our case, the school can make some money or get supplies in
exchange for items turned in.

I plan to have containers on the stage for those items we currently collect, including: PureLight Bottled Water
and other Nestle' products; Campbell Soup labels; used ink cartridges from computer printers; Box Tops for
Education; canceled stamps, reading glasses, and pull tabs from pop cans. Maybe somewhere outside the
school I will have a container for aluminum cans. I am open to any other items you might suggest that we can
recycle.

I suggest we collect food for our sharing parishes. I was inspired by our parishioner, Alison Jablonsky, who, for
her 18th birthday, sponsored a food drive and collected several boxes of food for the needy.
